ENDANGERED OR NOT ?
There are many things I will never understand, for instance my nephew’s explanation of why “global warming” is a farce, it’s not real and never will be, trigonometry, or several other subjects I tried in college. However, the biggest and most puzzling of all is the workings of the U.S. government.
Just last week I had the opportunity to meet and chat with the new director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) Dan Ashe. (Top Photo) Luckily I recorded his words and have been going back over what he said – that being, some good, some bad, and some pure political garbage. It is very clear that cutting budget is something none of these protectors of the wild want to hear.
In today’s times a person must be blind, deaf, or confined to a large box buried ten feet in the earth not to know our country is having a major money melt down. Printing more money just doesn’t work, as that brain dead mouth-breather in the White House is learning the hard way and at the countries expense.
So why then is the USFWS spending tax dollars on the endangered species act concerning animals that are not endangered in this country?
Does the anti-hunting faction come to mind?
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently announced a proposed rule to eliminate a regulation that authorized certain otherwise prohibited activities under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) with U.S. captive-bred live wildlife and sport-hunted trophies of three endangered African antelope species.
The species are all from the desert regions of Northern Africa, and are the dama gazelle, addax, and scimitar-horned oryx. These species are considered critically endangered in their native habitats while some are plentiful here in the US. It is assumed there are thousands of the animals in zoos, on game ranches, and in other such facilities in the United States.
In an effort to support captive breeding of these critically endangered species, “the service” granted special exemptions at the times these species were listed allowing owners of these animals to continue carrying out breeding and other activities, including hunting for herd management, without issuing an individual permit.
I believe the key word in the previous paragraph is “owners”.
Following publication in the Federal Register, the proposed rule will be subject to a 30-day comment period during which all interested persons are invited to comment on the proposal. Information received will be reviewed and evaluated relative to the development of a final decision.
Comments may be submitted online through the Federal Rulemaking Portal http://www.regulations.gov; follow the instructions for submitting comments on Docket No. FWS-R9-IA-2010-0056) or through U.S. mail or hand-delivery to Public Comments Processing, Attn: FWS-R9-IA-2010-0056; Division of Policy and Directives Management; U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service; 4401 N. Fairfax Drive, Suite 222; Arlington, VA 22203.
If you are tired of our government using our tax dollars for frivolous purposes please make a comment to that effect and let’s stop this waste of our money. Our ESA, no matter how bad the act is, was never meant to go beyond our borders. Make your voice heard.
